Mike Bibby secures buyout, headed to Miami?

February 28, 2011

Veteran Point Guard Mike Bibby has had a busy last week. First he was dealt by the Atlanta Hawks after playing and starting 56 games for the squad, to the lowly Washington Wizards. Then after playing in two games for Washington, Bibby secured himself a buyout, foregoing $6.2 million to play for a contender. It is highly speculated that Bibby will land with the Miami Heat, but he has also drawn heavy interest from contenders like the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers. Miami is in desperate need of a veteran Point Guard who has playoff experience and Bibby is just that as well as a significant upgrade over Mario Chalmers, despite his advanced NBA age. Wherever Bibby should land, he will definately help out and could be the missing link.

Clippers beat the Heat!

January 13, 2011

Last night at Staples Center, the Los Angeles Clippers came out on fire and were able to beat the Miami Heat 111-105. After scorching the Heat for 44 points in the first half, the Clippers held off a couple Heat surges to pick up their 8th win in their last 11 contests. Eric Gordon led the Clippers with 26 points while Baron Davis added 20 and Blake Griffin tallied his 24th straight double double by posting 24 points along with 14 rebounds. This win snapped the Heat’s 13 game road winning streak and Lebron James sprained an ankle in the loss to boot. Hopefully the Clippers can keep this play up and keeping posting wins.

Calipari tweets “I’ll be back at Kentucky”

May 14, 2010

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5188662

After last nights’ loss to the Boston Celtics, the Lebron James free agent saga unofficially began. James and his agent(s) have said he will explore his options and many believe he is headed to the NEw York Knicks. Well one person who wont be going with him is Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach John Calipari. After some speculation that he could get hired on wherever James ends up, Calipari shot thos rumors down by tweeting, “I’ve said many times that I’ve got the best job in the country. Still the speculation runs wild and I can’t stop that. I want to address this with the Big Blue Nation one last time, I will be coaching at Kentucky next year. Now let’s finish what we started!”

This was obviously going to be shot down as just a couple weeks ago Calipari was on ESPN radio saying how much fun he had last year and how he likes the challenge of the collge game. One other thing that makes me believe he wont go pro is that he’s a tough sell against the likes of Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers, Greg Poppovich etc due to the fact that he’s never won at the NBA level. I think Calipari stays and Lebron goes to one of five places, the Knicks, back to Cleveland, the Nets, the Clippers or the Bulls with an outside shot of him going to the Spurs (older, playoff experienced team who could string some moves and get him). Good luck to Coach Calipari and to Lebron this summer and next year.

Clippers shed payroll to take shot at King James

February 18, 2010

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-clippers-fyi19-2010feb19,0,3141139.story?track=rss

In the offseason the Clippers will be on a mission to lure Lebron James or Dwayne Wade to LA to play alongside Baron Davis,Blake Griffin and co. The Clippers will have the money and the “LA factor” but will they be able to pull off a deal. I think the Clippers will be in those guys top 5 teams to go to but its all about the pitch to the stars. As a Clipper die-hard, I would really love to see Wade before James but would take either one on my team. I think Wade would fit in very well as well as adding depth to the bench with Gordon being the 6th man. If James heads west, then Butler would be the 3-pt specialist off the bench as well bolster the Clipps lack of strength at the 3. Only time will tell on what the Clippers,Lebron Jame,Dwayne Wade and the rest of the NBA will do come summer time.

Did the Cavs tank to get King James?

January 14, 2010

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4825853

Did the Cavs tank to get a better shot at Lebron? Ex coach John Lucas thinks so and now many others will too. One thing about pro sports is that when a team is bad and there are good, young players to be drafted, teams will “tank” to finish lower to get a higher draft pick. “They trade all our guys away and we go real young, and the goal was to get LeBron and also to sell the team,” Lucas told AOL FanHouse. “I didn’t have a chance. … You can’t fault the Cavaliers for wanting to get LeBron. It was hard to get free agents to come there.” Lucas makes a good point and now I believe they did the same. The people that get the short end of the stick however are the paying fans of the team that want to see W’s posted. The casual fan will say, “Yea but we got Lebron in the deal!” Your TRUE and DIEHARD fans wouldn’t be excited to know their team is purposely playing bad to get a better draft position. The sad thing is this situation will never be resolved and there isnt much of a way to stop/prove it.

Lebron James-Poor sport or fierce competitor?

June 2, 2009

Lebron James…When you hear that name many words pop up in your head. Phenomonal. Great. Unstoppable.Poor sport? Now its obvious to see which word does not fit. I watched/listened to the Magic/Cavaliers series with alot of enthusiasm due to the fact two of the NBAs bright young stars were involved and the fact that the two teams were evenly matched on paper.

After game one I was talking w/ a friend and I brought up the fact that Lebron looked exhausted and that Orlando looked hungry for a title. Then after Cleveland went down 3-1 I knew it was academic. But what I least expected happened after game 6. Orlando easily handled the Cleveland Lebrons, err I mean Cavaliers, and after the game Lebron decided he was going to be a poor sport.

First of all I know firsthand how hard it is to lose a big game, but with that being said I held my head high, shook the oppositions hands and thanked my teammates for giving every last ounce of energy in their bodies to try and win. Lebron walking in the locker room without shaking the hand of the Orlando players, changing clothes, leaving without speaking to the press and then going on record the next day and saying, and I loosely quote, “Im a fierce competitor. You dont go and shake the hand of somebody that beats you up. They just beat us up and im not going to congradulate them.” Hmmm wait a second there Lebron, what were you doing to your opponents for roughly 7 months? Didnt Atlanta shake your hand after you demolished them? Detroit? I have this phrase for Lebron, “Act your age not your shoe size!”

Now you may think this is nitpicking and im not a fan of Lebron but I will say this, I am a fan of Lebron but the way he acted was ridiculous. When Michael Jordan couldnt defeat the Pistons early in his career he shook their hands and kindly said, “I’ll get you next year.” When Larry Bird and Magic Johnson knocked each other out they didnt act disrespectful and refuse to shake hands. Lebron was marketed like crazy and when things didnt go right for him he threw a temper tantrum like my 2 year old cousin and acted inmature. Saying “Im a fierce competitor was disrespectful to his teammates, his opponents, his coaches, his fans and the game he plays! Lebron isnt even a top 20 player of all time and even those guys in the top 20 wouldnt get excused for acting that way so why should Lebron?

To end my rant I will say this, Lebron is a damn good player and should be marketed as a great player but the NBA needs to use this as a wakeup call and realize there are other highly marketable great players (i.e Diwght Howard) and stop being so biased. David Stern is a smart man and for him to let this go on is hurting the game. If ANY other player did what Lebron did I GUARANTEE you theyd be fined and/or suspended a couple games to start next season. But since it was “King” James the NBA will turn their cheek and pretend like it didnt happen. Lebron should have been a man, shook the Magic players hands, appeared at the post game conference and took the L like a true professional would. Follow in the footsteps of guys who lost in big games like John Stockton, Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller. They didnt act inmature about it and neither should you.
